Post-War Europe: Refugees, Exile and Resettlement, 1945-1950 is a new online collection of primary source materials from the holdings of the Wiener Library, London and The National Archives in the UK which supports research and teaching of post-World War Two Europe.

 

This unique archive covers the international politics leading the administration, care, repatriation and emigration of the Displaced Persons (DPs) as well as the plight of the survivors, both Jews and non-Jews, of the Holocaust and World War Two, and their reintroduction to life and community. A large percentage of the DPs were refugees from Eastern European countries fleeing Soviet rule who were not able to return to their homelands until after the fall of the Berlin wall. Post-War Europe contains an introduction by the editor Professor DanStone, as well as newly-commissioned essays by leading scholars. These essays offer an insight into key themes and provide direct links to the documents mentioned and a means to access for students unfamiliar with the original materials. Five documentary British Pathe films provide visual evidence of key issues covered by the documents.
